Our
minds are our best assets. It’s the source of who we are, both
personally and professionally. It is the source of our strength and
our weakness, and determines our success or failure.
Self
Discipline is a wonderful thing.
Understanding
that the quality of our lives rests with our minds, it's a tragedy
to fill it with junk. The amount of negativity from television,
newspapers, tabloids, and horror stories related by friends, that we
allow to invade us on a daily basis, is incredible.
Stop
it now. When we allow a constant stream of negativity and bad news,
our mind will begin to decay. We must control of our minds.
Here are my tips to
control what you think about:
1. Be selective
about what you read How much good news do you see in your
daily newspapers? You’ve heard, "If it bleeds, it
leads." Not much chance of good news there. So, read
books that motivate you. Books that will inspire you. Read them
every morning or every night, before you go to sleep.
2.
Share your mind Great success is created when great minds get
together, discussing great ideas. Start a mastermind group of
like minded persons to share great thoughts.
3. Get A
Mentor My mentor was
a great thinker and scientist, and I’m still learning from her. Who
are some of the people you admire
( living or not )?
Talk with them, read about them, and read their works. Who
would you like to emulate?
4. Listen to
Motivational CDs or Tapes daily This is an important habit to
create for yourself. Get something inspirational and listen to it
over and over. Listening to books on tape at work, in the car,
or as a background at home can increase your IQ, ( and your
children’s ). Ever wonder how you know some important fact? You
heard it somewhere and may not remember where.
5.
Attend Seminars and workshops There are always motivational and
inspirational seminars, and wonderful people to meet, to network
with. Add them to your mastermind group, to reinforce your
self-esteem and positive thinking.
6. Turn Off the T V
Just
like any bad habit, it needs to be broken. Not that all television
is bad. I'm merely recommending that you cut back on your
television viewing. Decide how long you're going to watch television
and then turn it off when that time is up. Try cutting back your
television viewing by one hour every day. Use that time to
read a book, listen to a motivational tape, walk or spend time with
your family, or practicing a new skill.
Focusing
our energy toward a purpose will give us the
power to accomplish anything we want in life.
Start
by writing down all the things that you want to accomplish and make
an effort to achieve them. Self Discipline is a wonderful thing.
